About Montenegro

Montenegro is situated in southcentral Europe in the south part of the Adriatic sea. Land ranges from the high peaks in the norther part of the country to the sandy beaches in the sout part on the adriatic coast. Lately Montenegro is being more and more present on world market as a new perspective destination where more and more visitor decide to travel due to affordable rates and very beautifull natur. Some of the big steps were done to bring more investors into the country, steps like Porto Montenegro, while other locations, like Jaz each, Buljarica, Velika Plaža and Ada Bojana, have perhaps the greatest potential to attract more investements and position the country on the world tourist map. Underdevelopment is still an issue that needs to be solved, this is the legacy that has stayed since the days when Montenegro was a part of Yugoslavia. But lately Montenegro has become a name that screams progress, change and long term improvment in every aspect.

Popular destinations

Budva – is the touristic capital of Montenegro, with its natural bay where it is positioned and rich history it is attracting more and more visitors every year. The Budva coast is 21 km long with 17 beaches. It is among the most beautiful coasts in the Adriatic and when visiting Montenegro this is the place you simply have to see. In the Old part of the town you can also visit many shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries but also old sacred locations which are important part of the history of Budva.

Podgorica is the capital city. Podgorica lies on 5 rivers. Since the city was heavily bombarded in second world war it can be said that it is newly reborn city. It has modern style architecture with lot of parks and green surfaces.
Tivat is located in the central part of the Boka Kotorska bay, it is rich with with sandy beaches and numerous bays. It stretches on 31 square kilometers and the most famous of it all is the Blue Horizon beach located in the close vicitinity of the city.

Airports

Podgorica Airport – is located 11km from Podgorica. There are regular daily flights to Belgrade, and during the summer months taffic is intensified and flights are available to many different European destiantions.
Tivat Airport – is located only 2o kilometers away from Budva and it is well connected with different European cities.

Spoken languages

Montenegro language, due to the tourism orientation English and German are spoken as well.

Currency

From the beginning of 2002, the Euro has been the currency used in Montenegro

Drivers licence and drivers age

– Driver must be at least 20 years of age and have 1 year of driving experience in order to hire a car in Montenegro..

Travel tips

1. Car hire service is available in the cities and airports as well.
2. Taxi service is metered but price can also be negotiated.
3. International Driving License is required.

In Montenegro cars are driven on the right side as in most of the European countries.

Traffic

Montenegro has no highway infrastructure built yet but two current roadway projects projects are considered to be national priority to improve Montenegro’s economical position as well as creating an elite tourist destination. Speed limits are 120kph (75mph) on motorways and 100kph (62mph) on other roads. Seat belts must be fasten at all times. The minimum driving age is 18.
